Car Insurance Sterling (Car Insurance). Walmart ruined my custom wheels - Now What?Walmart ruined my custom wheels - Now What? I bought a new car on 4/11, it's a 96 Chrysler Sebring Convertible. On 4/12, I went on my lunch break from work to go get a new set of custom wheels. I should add at this point that I am a Trained Motorcycle Technician with many years experience working on cars and motorcycles, including hundreds of tire changes/balances. I am not just an average everyday consumer in this situation. Anyways, I bought the wheels and a set of 4 tires, and I took them to do myself, I wanted them done right and with no scratches, and I wanted them balanced a certain way, using stick-on type wheel weights. On 4/13, I mounted/balanced the tires, cleaned and waxed the wheels, and installed them on my car. I had a small problem, however. The only valve stems I had were for Harley Davidson Mag wheels. They are stainless steel stems with a rubber seal. They fit okay, but one had a slow leak, so I decided to go to the Walmart close to my house and have the proper stems installed. I didn't want to drive all the way out to my shop on these valve stems, so against my better judgment, I just went to Walmart. I worked at the Tire and Lube at this particular Walmart years ago, and I knew some of the people that work there. I felt comfortable taking my car here. I called before I went to make sure they had stick-on weights, and I was informed that they did. Upon arriving at Walmart, I talked to the technician that was going to work on my car, and both my wife and I stressed that we only wanted stick-on weights used when they rebalanced the wheels. We were told this was not a problem. The work was done, and I took my car. Everything seemed fine. Well, this past Saturday, 4/23, being the first nice day we've had here since I got the car, I gave it a good detail after work. I got down on the floor and hand washed and waxed my wheels again. When I got down and started washing them, I found that they had in fact used hammer-on weights on the inside lip of all 4 wheels, and I also found multiple scratches all over the wheels, right around the valve stems and where the lug nuts go. This is absolutely unacceptable. The wheel weights, I guess, I could let slide as a mis-communication, but the scratches in the powder coat and the aluminum is just carelessness and I will not tolerate. I called Walmart, and talked to a manager, and he said to bring the car in so they could see it and they would have to file a claim with their insurance. When I got there, there was probably 8-10 people piling around my car trying to make excuses for what they did, trying to weasel out of responsibility. The technician who actually did the work was there, and he was being a first-class ***hole about it, making smart *** remarks and generally being an idiot, stomping around slamming doors, etc... They pulled my car into their garage, and asked me to come out and show them what I was seeing. I showed them the multiple scratches, and the manager took pictures. They then proceeded to take one of the wheels off to look at the weights, whatever good that would do them. With the wheel off, we found that the rim had a small dent along the bead on the inside lip, which was apparently some huge deal to the tech that originally did the work. He immediately started acting like because the lip had a dent, he was off the hook. We looked at the front wheel on the same side, and found that it was dented as well. Not terribly, I've seen/repaired far worse. Anyways, we started going over my information to make the claim, and the manager is telling me that since I installed the tires/wheels myself before I brought the car to them, and because 2 of the rims had small dents in them, that Walmart would likely not be held responsible for any of the damage that they caused. I installed the wheels and drove straight to Walmart. The wheels were brand new and in perfect condition when it was driven into their garage. Their work order makes no note of any damage either before or after the service. It did state that the ABS light was on Prior to Service, which has nothing to do with the damage in question. He was hesitant to even file the claim, and kept trying to talk me out of filing it, because they probably wouldn't do anything about it. I have an attorney I can contact, but I would rather just keep this out of court. As far as I'm concerned, right is right and wrong is wrong. I had no idea the wheels were dented, but that is not the point anyways. They damaged the wheels, and they need to be held liable for the damage they caused. Dents or no dents, they scratched the wheels and used wheel weights that damaged the finish, and they need to make it right. Am I wrong? Should Walmart get off the hook? No, Walmart should pay BIG TIME for this. Don't let them get away with this. The attitude of the kid that did the work was very immature as well. If they did not record the fact that 2 rims were dented, then it should be assumed that they dented them too. No don't let them off the hook. You might have to see a lawyer . Maybe when they hear from him they will just make good and pay for new tires. I would definitely not let this go. Wow. That could have been handled in about 2 sentences. We don't need your life story. Man up, grow a pair and ***** at Wal-mart. Don't sob to us. Auto parts : Shift Knob Acura 1995 . Shift Lever Alfa Romeo 1996 . Shift Lever Swivel Audi 1997 . My car made a knocky noise and then dropped a lot of oil!? My car made a knocky noise and then dropped a lot of oil!? Yup! 95 Civic engine started making a metallic knocky noise. Then it kinda stalled and the sound changed to a slower more muffled noise. When I checked there was a lot of oil under the engine but I could not see where it was coming from. Also the oil pan gasket was ruptured but anyways my moms boyfriend says it is probably just the gasket. I need to fix it to give it as a down payment for my dads work truck which he definitely needs. Street Triple for second motorcycle? Well i've been riding around in my Suzuki GZ250 for about 1000 miles and I'm looking to get a second motorcycle. I'm 25 and I've already passed the MSF and I'm endorsed. I test rode the Street Triple and found the upright ergonomics appealing, plus it has plenty of power and is very maneuverable. I've been looking at other bikes as well mostly the Suzuki M50 and Harley 883 and 1200 Nightster, but I feel the Triumph is what I'm looking for. Sterling . How to Replace CV Joints on a 1998 Nissan MaximaReplacing the CV joints on your 1998 Nissan Maxima is a lengthy process, involving a working knowledge and experience base of automotive mechanics. It is not advised for those without some automotive repair experience to try this process. CV joints need to be replaced whenever there is a clicking or metallic sound coming from the tires while turning and accelerating or a rhythmical clunking sound when slowing down. Difficulty:Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Wrench 1.5-ton floor jack Jack stands Tire iron Drain pan Pry bar Torque wrench Coat hanger Screwdriver Replacement CV joint Socket wrench with socket set Step by Step : 1 Disconnect the negative battery terminal cable with a wrench. Position a floor jack under the frame of your 1998 Maxima and raise it up then insert a jack stand on either side of the car so that both front tires are off the ground. Unscrew the lug nuts with a tire iron and remove the tire from the wheel. Remove the engine splash shields to access the rest of the axle. Use a drain pan to catch any oil or fluids from the splash shields. 2 Remove the drive axle/hub nut located in the center of the wheel with a torque wrench. Wedge a pry bar between two of the wheel studs, allowing it to rest on the ground so that the Maxima's wheel does not rotate while removing the hub nut. 3 Unclip the brake hose from the strut and remove the caliper from the rotor with a socket wrench. Use a coat hanger to hang the caliper from the coil spring. 4 Unbolt the steering knuckle from the strut and pull out it out enough so that you can remove it from the drive axle of your 1998 Nissan Maxima. 5 Use the pry bar to gently pry the left CV joint out of the trans-axle. Due to the Maxima's design, you must remove the passenger's side CV joint prior to removing the driver's side CV joint. Automatic trans-axle models also require removal of the right side drive axle. Insert a screwdriver between the differential side gears so that the left side shaft can be loosened, allowing you to remove the driver's side CV joint. 6 Replace the CV joint, making sure that all axle seals and ABS rings are also installed onto the new CV joint. New CV joints should have seals and rings pre-installed. The new CV joint should click into place once it is inserted into the trans-axle. Replace the driver's side CV joint prior to inserting the passenger's side CV joint. 7 Reinstall the steering knuckle, rotor and caliper. Tighten the drive axle/hub nut with a torque wrench to 174 foot-pounds. Remount the tire and tighten the lug nuts. Raise the Maxima with the floor jack just enough to remove the jack stands then lower the car to the ground. Reinstall the negative battery cable with the wrench. ResourcesSamarins: CV Joint
Sterling . Can CV Joints Squeal When They Are Cold and Bad?Constant Velocity joints or CV joints are a flexible coupling which allows the outer wheel to steer the car. The shaft behind the wheel turns the wheel and moves in an up-and-down motion along with the suspension. CV joints only make noises whenever they go bad, but squealing is not one of them. Temperature changes do not cause CV joints to make noises. Clicking Sound Popping and clicking sounds occur when the outer CV joint is going bad. This occurs when the car is making a 90-degree turn, such as turning a corner. The sound is more pronounced when the car is in reverse. Clunking Sound A clunking sound while the car is accelerating is a sign the inner joint which is connected to the transmission is bad. Like the outer joints, the sound is more pronounced when the car is in reverse. CV Boots The CV joints have boots similar to the boots at the base of a manual shift lever. The boot keeps lubricant in and contaminants out. Loss of lubricant can occur when the boots get old and worn or damaged by road debris. Prevention of premature failure of the CV joints starts by periodically inspecting the boots. If a boot is damaged, it can be replaced before any major damage can occur.
